Our Challenge for February - Get Moving!!!!!

COMMIT TO A NEW YOU!
Our emphasis for the month of February is to incorporate daily exercise into our life.  If you are already exercising, then we want you to kick it up!  If you do not have an exercise program, now is the time for change.
Our bodies are the temple of God and He intended for us to be active and use the over 600 muscles He gave us. What you don’t use, you will lose.  There is no better time to commit to be fit.  Good nutrition, spiritual food and exercise are necessary for an active and healthy Christian life.

Our challenge for the rest of this week and next week is to increase our activity level and aerobic capability by starting with these simple suggestions:
  • Park farther away from your destination to increase your walking distance.
  • Take the stairs whenever you can.
  • Walk around your neighborhood or at least walk outside in your yard to begin your exercise program.
  • Sit no longer than 45 minutes without getting up to walk and stretch for 5-10 minutes.
  • Be aware of your posture both standing and sitting.
  • Stretch every day.
  • Use good body mechanics.
  • Take a walk at lunch.  This will decrease stress and improve your cardiovascular system.
  • Get 20 minutes of aerobic exercise and if able, increase the time and intensity.  Be sure to breathe rhythmatically; 3 to 4 steps inhaling and 3 to 4 steps exhaling, depending on how fast you are going.
  • Build a network of support as you begin your exercise program by eliciting family, coworkers and friends to encourage you, join you, and/or hold you responsible for your exercise program.  One should exercise 5 to 6 days a week.
If you are not sure how to stretch, improve your posture, become stronger, use correct body mechanics, or how to plan a complete exercise program, then you don't want to miss "Get Moving with Alexa!" on Tuesday, February 7, 6:30 pm, in the community center at 4805 Dillard Drive, Raleigh, NC.

Alexa Broome, a certified personal trainer, a consultant for Lifestyle and Weight Management, and a registered nurse, will help us get started with an exercise program.   Come learn why aerobic exercise, strength training and stretching are necessary for a strong and healthy body. Wear comfortable clothes (e.g. sweats, work-out clothes, sneakers).  Bring any exercise items that you may have, such as mats, bands, tubing, balance balls or weights.

RSVP register4health@embarqmail.com by Monday to attend the event!
