The Pain in the Back

For most people with back pain, an active program of stretching and exercise will typically help reduce pain and encourage healing.   Strong and flexible abdominal and back muscles (the core muscles) are key in providing the strength to keep the body upright while letting it move freely.   Muscles that are strong and flexible will support and protect the spine.   Maintaining correct posture will keep the spinal vertebrae and disks in proper alignment.   Good posture will prevent unnecessary stress to the spine.   Poor posture, incorrect body mechanics and weak or tight muscles will eventually contribute to conditions resulting in back pain.   Always use good posture, especially when exercising.   Strong muscles will protect joints from overuse and injury, including the joints of the spine.
